Task Owl — Privacy Policy

Task Owl is a family chore and calendar app made by Sam Hatchett. It is designed so that your family's information stays with your family. This policy explains what that means in practice.
The short version
Task Owl holds no user accounts, maintains no servers, collects no analytics, conducts no advertising, and performs no tracking. Your family's data lives on your devices and in your own iCloud account. We never see it.
What data the app handles, and where it lives
Family content you create — people's names, avatars (typed emoji or Genmoji/sticker images), task lists, schedules, completion history, star balances and streaks, calendar subscriptions, and celebration picks — is stored on your devices and synced through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. When you invite family members, sharing happens through Apple's iCloud Family Sharing infrastructure. This data is stored in your private iCloud database (or the share owner's, for invited members); it is not transmitted to us and we cannot access it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by [Apple's Privacy Policy](https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/).
Task history older than 90 days is automatically deleted from your devices and iCloud. Points and streak records are kept.
Calendar subscriptions: if you add an ICS calendar feed, your device fetches that feed directly from the URL you provide. The feed operator can see standard web request information (such as your IP address). Cached events are stored only on your devices, never synced by us.
Celebration GIFs: parents can optionally browse GIFs provided by KLIPY. When you search or browse, your search terms and standard web request information are sent to KLIPY to return results, with content restricted to G-rated. We do not attach any identity to these requests, and the app works fully without ever using this feature (a built-in celebration is included). KLIPY's handling of requests is governed by its own privacy policy.
Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Purchase state is checked on-device through Apple's StoreKit.
Notifications (task approvals) are generated locally on your devices. We do not operate a push notification server.
Children's privacy
Task Owl is used by families, including children. The app is built so that children's information — names, avatars, task activity — never reaches us or any third party: it stays on your family's devices and in your family's iCloud. The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, no chat with strangers, and no way for a child to share information outside the family's iCloud share. Parents control all setup, including avatars and celebration content, from a PIN-protected parent area. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, including children, we do not sell, share, or process it.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is yours to delete at any time: remove people or tasks in the app, delete the app to remove its local data, or remove Task Owl's data from iCloud in iOS Settings (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage). Because we hold no copy, deletion by you is complete — there is nothing for us to delete on our side. The app can also export your family's data to a JSON file you control; exports cover the last 90 days of task history, with points and streaks complete.
What we collect
Nothing. We receive no analytics, no crash reports beyond what you choose to share with Apple (governed by your iOS settings), and no personal data.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Task Owl changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated and the "last updated" date revised before that version ships.
